The Caramel Trinidad Scorpion is an extraordinary natural variant of the world-famous Trinidad Scorpion, distinguished by its rich caramel colour and signature scorpion tail. Combining ferocious heat with complex flavour, this chinense variety is as beautiful as it is brutal — a true collector’s chilli that rewards patience and care in cultivation.
The pods are medium to large, deeply wrinkled, and finished with the characteristic pointed tail that gives the Scorpion family its name. They mature slowly from green to a glossy caramel-brown, a stage that marks the full development of both heat and flavour. The plants grow to medium–large size, typically reaching around 120 cm, and are highly prolific under warm conditions.
Flavour is exceptional — a layered mix of sweetness, fruit, and deep smoky undertones that intensify when dried. The heat builds rapidly and lingers with remarkable intensity, ranging between 1.2 and 2 million SHU. This places the Caramel Trinidad Scorpion firmly among the hottest chillies in the world. Despite its power, it retains the fruity complexity typical of the Moruga lineage, giving it culinary value beyond sheer heat.
The plant is vigorous and robust, producing consistently heavy yields. It thrives in full sun, well-drained soil, and warm conditions, and benefits from staking once fruiting begins. Though slow to ripen, the final caramel pods are well worth the wait — stunning in appearance and unmatched in heat and aroma.
Originating from Trinidad, this variety represents the Scorpion at its most elegant: fiery, flavoursome, and uniquely coloured. A true highlight for experienced growers and heat-seekers alike.
