Chilli Name : TRINIDAD SCORPION BUTCH T
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Trinidad – USA
Chilli Heat : Superhot (1,200,000–1,463,700 SHU)
The Trinidad Scorpion Butch T is one of the legendary superhot chillies, bred from original Trinidad Capsicum chinense lines and developed in the USA by Butch Taylor, whose nickname gives the variety its title. Once officially recognised as the world’s hottest chilli (2011 Guinness Record), it remains an icon among extreme-heat growers and sauce makers.
Pods are short, lumpy, and heavily wrinkled, about 4–5 cm long, often finishing with the distinctive Scorpion tail at the tip — a hallmark of this genetic line. They ripen from green to bright scarlet red. The flavour is fruity, slightly floral, and intensely pungent, delivering a brutal, lingering burn that peaks above 1.4 million SHU under prime conditions. It’s favoured for superhot sauces, powders, and extracts, where even a small amount provides enormous heat.
Plants are vigorous and high-yielding (90–120 cm tall), performing best in warm, humid environments with consistent feeding and strong sunlight. Though bred for open-field growing, it adapts well to UK greenhouses with sufficient warmth.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants reach maturity in 120–130 days, producing heavily late in the season once established.
