Purple Haze is a modern American hybrid chilli grown for its stunning deep violet colouring, bright flavour, and balanced warmth. Though its looks might suggest something fierce, this variety delivers a pleasant, manageable heat that makes it ideal for everyday cooking while still adding visual flair to the garden.
Pods are medium-sized, slightly pointed and smooth, ripening through dark purple, reddish-brown, and finally deep red. The flavour is sweet, slightly floral, and fruity, with medium heat around 60,000–75,000 SHU — lively, but not overpowering. It’s perfect for fresh salsas, sauces, and decorative use, adding both colour and a clean kick.
Plants are compact and bushy (60–80 cm tall) with purple-tinted foliage and stems, making them one of the most attractive edible plants to grow. The combination of ornamental beauty and mild, fruity heat makes Purple Haze a great bridge between decorative and culinary chillies.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in about 100 days and yield heavily throughout the season.
