Description

Chilli Name: NAGA PURPLE
Chilli Species: Chinense
Chilli Origin: India – Bangladesh
Chilli Heat: Superhot

Naga Purple is a striking and potent offshoot of the famous Naga Jolokia, developed for its unique colouring and exceptional visual appeal while retaining the legendary intensity of its parent. The plants produce deep purple foliage and blossoms, matched by glossy purple pods that eventually ripen to a rich red, creating one of the most eye-catching superhot varieties available.

The pods are elongated, tapering to a sharp point, and carry an extraordinary heat that can exceed 1 000 000 SHU. Flavour is bold and complex, combining fruity and smoky undertones typical of the Naga family. The aroma is strong and slightly sweet before the intense burn takes hold, making this variety suitable only for experienced chilli users.

In the kitchen, Naga Purple should be handled with extreme care. A small piece adds immense heat and rich depth to sauces, marinades, chutneys, and pickles. Its intense fruitiness complements barbecue glazes, curry pastes, and spicy oils. For most dishes, even a quarter of a pod per person is sufficient.

Plants are robust and bushy, growing up to one metre tall in the ground or around 50–60 cm in pots. They thrive in full sun and regular moisture with well-drained soil. The fruits ripen from dark purple to deep red, producing a striking ornamental effect as well as outstanding culinary potency.

Originating from the Naga Jolokia lineage of India and Bangladesh, Naga Purple represents both beauty and power — a vivid, fiery reminder of why this family of chillies remains among the world’s hottest and most admired.

Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
