Marconi Red, also known as Marconi Rosso, is a traditional Italian sweet pepper renowned for its long, tapered pods, rich flavour, and reliable cropping. It’s one of Italy’s most popular non-hot chillies, grown for its sweet taste, juicy flesh, and versatility in Mediterranean cooking — from roasting to grilling and stuffing.
Pods are large and smooth, typically 20–25 cm long and 5 cm wide, ripening from dark green to vibrant red. The flavour is sweet, full-bodied, and slightly fruity, with no detectable heat. The thick, fleshy walls make it perfect for roasting, slicing fresh into salads, or frying in olive oil — a true kitchen staple across southern Europe.
Plants are strong and productive (70–90 cm tall), producing heavy yields of long, pendulous pods over a long season. They perform well in greenhouses or sunny, sheltered gardens, with consistent yields even in cooler summers.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in about 80–90 days and continue cropping through to autumn.
