Description
Chilli Name : BIQUINHO RED
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Brazil
Chilli Heat : Mild
The Biquinho Red, meaning “little beak” in Portuguese, is a traditional Brazilian chinense variety. It is highly popular across Brazil, often used pickled or preserved in vinegar, where its mild fruity flavour adds depth without overpowering heat. Its unique shape and gentle character make it a favourite in both home gardens and kitchens.
Pods are small and teardrop-shaped, with a pointed “beak” at the end, typically 2–3 cm long. They ripen from green to a glossy red, with sweet, tangy flesh and only the lightest touch of heat.
Plants are compact and very productive, usually 50–70 cm tall, yielding heavy crops of pods over a long season. Their ornamental appearance, with masses of red teardrop pods, adds to their appeal.
Seeds germinate best at 25–28 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants take 90–110 days from sowing to harvest, producing generously throughout the summer.
