Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : USA (New Mexico State University)
Chilli Heat : Hot
Jalapeño Orange Spice is a vibrant orange jalapeño bred by the Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University (NMSU) as part of their NuMex colour-bred jalapeño line. It was developed to offer the full jalapeño experience — thick flesh, smoky-sweet flavour, and strong heat — in a completely new colour form.
Pods are smooth, firm, and glossy, around 7–9 cm long, ripening from pale green to deep orange. The flavour is rich and slightly sweet, with a bold jalapeño kick that’s hotter than average. Heat levels range from 20,000–30,000 SHU, making it one of the spiciest jalapeños in the NuMex family. Its vibrant colour and heat make it ideal for salsas, grilled dishes, and sauces where flavour and visual appeal matter.
Plants are medium-sized (60–80 cm), bushy and very productive, setting large crops of uniform pods across the season. Like other NuMex lines, it shows excellent disease resistance and adaptability to different climates.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 90–100 days and produce consistently under warm, sunny conditions.
