Description
Chilli Name : BLACK PANTHER RED
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Modern cross (breeder unknown)
Chilli Heat : Superhot
The Black Panther Red is a modern superhot cross with striking dark-to-red ripening pods. While its precise breeding history isn’t clearly documented, it belongs to the group of superhots bred for dramatic colour contrasts and extreme heat, making it a favourite among collectors.
Pods are elongated and gnarled, with rough skin and pointed ends, ripening from dark blackish-purple through to a fiery red. The contrast of dark unripe pods against ripe red ones makes the plant highly distinctive. Heat is at the upper end of the superhot scale, with fruity chinense flavour beneath the intensity.
Plants are vigorous for a chinense, typically 90–120 cm tall, and yield generously when grown in long, hot seasons.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants usually take 100–120 days from sowing to harvest, with greenhouse or polytunnel cultivation recommended in the UK to ensure full ripening.
