Description

Chilli Name : ASTI RED SWEET PEPPER
Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : Italy (Asti, Piedmont)
Chilli Heat : None (Sweet)

The Asti Red Sweet Pepper is a traditional Italian variety from Asti in the Piedmont region, renowned for its large, sweet, thick-walled pods. Unlike hot chillies, this variety is grown for its rich flavour and culinary versatility, being a cornerstone in Italian kitchens for roasting, stuffing, and fresh use.

Pods are blocky and robust, typically 8–12 cm long, ripening from green to a deep red. Their thick, juicy flesh delivers sweetness with no heat, making them suitable for salads, frying, grilling, and preserving.

Plants are vigorous and productive, usually 60–80 cm tall, with high yields of large pods. They thrive in warm, sunny conditions and benefit from staking to support heavy fruit loads.

Seeds germinate best at 25–28 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants take 75–95 days from sowing to harvest, delivering consistent crops throughout the summer.
