Description
Chilli Name : 7 POT DOUGLAH RED
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Trinidad
Chilli Heat : Superhot
The 7 Pot Douglah Red is a rare and distinctive variation of the legendary Douglah, one of Trinidad’s most notorious superhot chillies. While the classic Douglah is famed for its deep brown pods and earthy heat, the red strain brings the same explosive fire in a brighter, fruitier package.
This rarity is what makes the Douglah Red special — it combines the ferocity of the original with a cleaner, more tropical fruit flavour, offering sauce makers and collectors a unique twist on a classic. It’s grown less often than the brown Douglah, making it a sought-after choice among serious chilli enthusiasts.
Plants usually grow 90–120 cm tall with a bushy habit, producing heavy yields of knobbly, wrinkled pods. Fruits ripen from green to a vivid red, with medium to large size typical of the Douglah line.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. In UK conditions, greenhouse or polytunnel growing is recommended for reliable ripening. From sowing to harvest generally takes 110–130 days, with pods maturing late in the season.
