Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : Spain (La Rioja region)

The Alegría Riojana is a traditional Spanish chilli variety from the La Rioja region, where it holds cultural and culinary importance. The name translates to “Joy of Rioja”, and the chilli has long been part of the region’s gastronomy, often used in sausages, stews, and sauces that define northern Spanish cuisine.
Pods are small and tapered, typically 4–6 cm long, ripening from green to a bright red. Their flavour is tangy and slightly sweet with a medium, lively heat. Dried pods are commonly ground into flakes or powders, adding both colour and flavour to traditional dishes.
Plants are compact to medium-sized, usually 50–80 cm tall, with a bushy habit and strong productivity. They are reliable croppers that thrive in sunny conditions, well suited to both field growing and garden cultivation.
Seeds germinate best at 25–28 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants take 80–100 days from sowing to harvest, producing steadily through the summer.
