Description
Chilli Name : AJÍ FANTASY
Chilli Species : Baccatum
Chilli Origin : Finland
Chilli Heat : Mild to Medium
The Ají Fantasy is a modern chilli bred in Finland by Jukka Fatalii, developed after several years of selective work with South American baccatum stock. Released in the 2010s, it has quickly gained global popularity for its distinctive appearance, fruity flavour, and reliable cropping. Unlike traditional South American ajís, this one is entirely of Finnish origin, representing how classic genetics can be reinvented in a new climate.
Pods are lantern-shaped, often with a bulbous body tapering to a small point, typically 4–6 cm long. They ripen from green to a bright lemon-yellow and carry a mild to medium heat with a fruity, citrus-like flavour. Their shape and colour make them particularly attractive in both the garden and the kitchen.
Plants are compact and highly productive, usually 60–90 cm tall, and produce abundant crops of pods across a long season. Their manageable size and reliable yields make them a popular choice for growers of all levels.
Seeds germinate best at 25–28 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants take 90–110 days from sowing to harvest. In UK conditions, greenhouse or polytunnel cultivation ensures reliable ripening, though outdoor growing is possible in a warm summer.
