Chilli Name : CLAVO RED
Chilli Species : Baccatum
Chilli Origin : South America (likely Peru/Bolivia)
Chilli Heat : Medium
Clavo Red is a rare baccatum variety, known for its elongated, slightly curved pods that ripen to a strong, glossy red. The name “Clavo” translates as nail in Spanish, a nod to the slim, tapering shape of the pods.
Heat is medium, with the typical fruity, slightly citrusy notes that baccatum chillies are loved for. Flavour is bright and clean, making it a good choice for salsas, sauces, and drying for flakes.
Plants are vigorous and upright, commonly growing over 1 m tall, producing heavy yields across a long season. White flowers with yellow spots clearly identify it as a baccatum.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, with sprouts appearing in 10–21 days. Plants usually need 100–110 days from sowing to first harvest, with cropping continuing through summer.
