Description
Chilli Name : 7 POT BUBBLEGUM RED
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Trinidad – USA
Chilli Heat : Superhot
The 7 Pot Bubblegum Red is one of the most distinctive superhot chillies thanks to its unusual “bleeding calyx” trait. First bred in the USA from the traditional Trinidadian 7 Pot family, it carries the extreme heat of its Caribbean ancestors while showing the striking red colour that spreads from the pod up into the stem, giving it the look of a chilli that is “bleeding.”
Like other 7 Pots, it is named for the claim that a single pod is hot enough to season seven pots of stew. The Bubblegum Red builds on that legacy, offering explosive heat alongside a fruity, slightly floral flavour profile. Its unique appearance has made it especially popular with collectors and growers looking for something unusual in their garden.
Plants typically reach 90–120 cm with a bushy, branching habit. Pods are wrinkled, rounded, and often 4–6 cm long, ripening from green to vivid red. The bleeding calyx effect makes the whole plant stand out visually.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, usually within 10–21 days. In the UK, greenhouse or polytunnel growing is strongly recommended for reliable ripening, though large sheltered pots can succeed in hot summers. Plants usually take 110–130 days from sowing to harvest, with fruits ripening late in the season.
