Description
Chilli Name : 7 POD (7 POT)
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Trinidad
Chilli Heat : Superhot
The 7 Pod, also known as 7 Pot, comes from Trinidad in the Caribbean and is part of the legendary family of superhot chillies that made the island famous. Its name comes from the claim that a single pod is hot enough to flavour seven pots of stew, a reflection of both its extreme heat and its reputation amongst local growers.
Over time, the 7 Pod became one of the foundation chillies of the modern superhot era, giving rise to countless strains and hybrids. It remains a benchmark chilli for growers and sauce makers who want explosive heat combined with tropical fruitiness.
Despite its fierce heat, the 7 Pod Red is relatively straightforward to grow given the right warmth and care. Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, often taking 10–21 days. Plants grow to around 80–120 cm in height with a bushy spread, producing heavy yields of wrinkled red pods.
In the UK, it is best suited to greenhouse or polytunnel growing, though large pots in a sheltered sunny spot can also work. From sowing to harvest usually takes 100–120 days, with fruits ripening in late summer through early autumn.
