Description
Chilli Name: 7 POD BARRACKPORE
Chilli Species: Chinense
Chilli Origin: Trinidad
Chilli Heat: SUPERHOT
The 7 Pod Barrackpore is a fearsome superhot variety from the Barrackpore region of Trinidad, home to many of the world’s hottest chillies. Closely related to the classic 7 Pod, this strain is often regarded as one of the largest and most intense of the family.
The name “7 Pod” comes from the local saying that one pod is hot enough to spice seven pots of stew. The Barrackpore type continues that tradition with pods that are even bigger, heavier, and packed with fire.
Plants usually grow to around 90–120 cm tall with a strong, branching habit. The pods are bumpy and elongated, often 5–8 cm long, ripening from green to a deep, fiery red. Expect heavy yields if grown with warmth and care.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, typically taking 10–21 days. In UK conditions, greenhouse or polytunnel growing is strongly recommended, though large outdoor pots in a sheltered sunny position can succeed in a hot summer. From sowing to harvest generally takes 100–120 days, with fruits ripening late in the season.
