Yalova Carliston Long Sweet Red is a traditional Turkish Capsicum annuum variety from the Yalova region, near the Sea of Marmara. It’s part of Turkey’s long-standing Carliston pepper family — known for sweet, thick-walled pods and excellent yields. Cultivated across the country for both fresh markets and home cooking, it’s a staple in salads, grilling, and stuffing.
Pods are long, tapered, and slightly curved, about 15–20 cm long, ripening from pale green to vibrant red. The flavour is sweet, mild, and juicy, with negligible heat (0–500 SHU). When red and fully ripe, they develop a richer sweetness that makes them perfect for roasting, sauces, or drying for mild red flakes.
Plants are tall and vigorous (70–100 cm), producing large crops of uniform fruit throughout the summer. Adapted to Turkey’s coastal climate, they perform beautifully in UK greenhouses or sheltered gardens, producing heavy yields of glossy, thin-skinned pods.
Seeds germinate best at 24–28 °C, sprouting within 7–14 days. Plants mature in about 85–95 days, cropping steadily until autumn.
