Description
Chilli Name: VIOLET SPARKLE
Chilli Species: Annuum
Chilli Origin: Russia
Chilli Heat: Sweet
Violet Sparkle is an heirloom sweet pepper variety celebrated for its striking beauty and excellent flavour. This non-spicy annuum combines ornamental colour transitions with delicious, crisp fruit that’s ideal for both culinary and decorative use. Compact and easy to grow, it’s a perfect choice for gardeners seeking a colourful, high-yielding sweet pepper.
The conical pods begin a pale greenish chartreuse, develop rich purple streaks, and mature through deep violet to crimson red while retaining their purple accents. The thick-walled fruit has a glossy sheen and firm, crunchy texture, making it well suited to fresh use, roasting, or stuffing. Each stage of ripening creates a vivid display that enhances the appearance of both plant and plate.
Flavour is sweet, mild, and clean, comparable to a bell pepper but with a slightly richer undertone when fully ripe. The fruit develops its best sweetness once the pods turn red or dark purple. Its versatility makes it ideal for salads, grilling, and colourful presentations in fresh dishes.
The plants are compact and prolific, easily managed in small gardens, containers, or greenhouses. They thrive in sunny conditions and well-drained soil, maturing in around 60–80 days from transplant. Harvesting can be done at various colour stages, though full ripeness brings the best taste and visual appeal.
Violet Sparkle’s combination of colour, sweetness, and productivity makes it an exceptional choice for both ornamental and culinary growers. Few peppers deliver this level of visual impact while remaining so easy to cultivate.
It is believed to be the same as a Russian variety known as 'Sirenevyi' or 'Sirenevy Blesk', which was developed by Agrofirm Semena Altaya and the Federal Scientific Center of Vegetable Growing. This cultivar was entered into the Russian State Register of Breeding Achievements in 2008 and became a popular choice for home gardens (known as dachas) due to its compact size and high yield. It was later introduced to the United States and other countries through online seed companies.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
