Chilli Origin : USA
Chilli Heat : Superhot (900,000–1,100,000 SHU)
Wraith is a modern Capsicum chinense hybrid from the USA, created by breeders exploring the darker, more complex end of the superhot spectrum. It’s believed to descend from Ghost (Bhut Jolokia) and Scorpion lineage, bred for extreme heat and smoky, fruity depth. The name “Wraith” fits its character — slow to appear, but once it hits, the heat lingers like a ghostly flame.
Pods are gnarled, thin-walled, and slightly twisted, around 4–5 cm long, ripening from green to deep red or orange-red. The flavour begins sweet and slightly floral, quickly shifting to an intense, searing burn that peaks near 1 million SHU. It’s perfect for superhot sauces and powders, adding a haunting depth of heat and fruit to blends.
Plants are medium-sized and productive (80–100 cm tall), producing consistently through the season under warm conditions. They thrive in greenhouses or hot, sheltered outdoor spaces, rewarding growers with an impressive yield of pods late into summer.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants reach maturity in around 110–120 days, with peak pod set in late summer.
