Description

Chilli Name : SERRANO HUASTECO
Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : Mexico
Chilli Heat : Hot (10,000–25,000 SHU)

Serrano Huasteco is a true Mexican Serrano variety, developed for high yield, thick flesh, and strong, clean flavour. It originates from the Huasteca region of eastern Mexico, an area famous for its chilli-growing traditions and rich, volcanic soils. This variety is a registered commercial cultivar used widely across Mexico for both domestic markets and export.

Pods are slender and cylindrical, about 5–7 cm long, ripening from bright green to deep red. The flavour is fresh, grassy, and slightly tangy, with hot heat in the 10,000–25,000 SHU range — hotter than a jalapeño but below cayenne levels. The balance of heat and freshness makes it ideal for salsas, sauces, and everyday Mexican cooking, particularly salsa verde and pico de gallo.

Plants are vigorous and upright (70–100 cm tall), producing heavy yields of uniform fruit throughout the season. Bred for resistance to common viral and bacterial diseases, Serrano Huasteco performs well under both greenhouse and open-field cultivation.

Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 85–95 days, continuing to crop well into autumn.
