Escondida is a heritage baccatum variety, its name meaning hidden in Spanish. It is recognised among South American growers for its bright flavour and dependable cropping.
Pods are medium-sized, elongated with a slight curve, ripening from green to orange-red. Heat is medium, with the fruity citrus-like notes typical of baccatum, making it a versatile chilli for sauces, salsas, and drying for flakes.
Plants are tall and upright, often exceeding 1 m, producing heavy yields across a long growing season. As with many baccatum types, the white flowers marked with yellow spots identify its species.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants usually take 100–110 days from sowing to harvest.
