Description
Chilli Name : MORUGA SCORPION RED
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Trinidad
Chilli Heat : Superhot
Moruga Scorpion Red is the original Trinidadian superhot, hailing from the coastal village of Moruga on the island of Trinidad. It gained global fame when it was officially measured at over 2 million Scoville Heat Units, making it one of the hottest chillies ever recorded. Yet behind the fire lies a surprisingly rich, fruity flavour that’s made it a favourite among sauce makers and chilli fanatics alike.
Pods are thick-walled, deeply wrinkled and end in the distinctive scorpion tail. They ripen from green to bright, glossy red and contain a fearsome combination of instant and lingering burn. The flavour starts sweet and floral before the heat takes over completely — a complex mix that’s perfect for superhot sauces, powders, and extreme cooking challenges.
Plants are vigorous and bushy (90–120 cm tall), producing generous yields under warm, humid conditions. They thrive in greenhouses or tunnels in cooler climates, where the heat and humidity allow them to develop to full potency.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants mature in about 110–120 days and continue producing into late summer and autumn.
