Description
Chilli Name : MORUGA SCORPION BURGUNDY
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Trinidad
Chilli Heat : Superhot
Moruga Scorpion Burgundy is a rare colour variant of the legendary Trinidad Moruga Scorpion — one of the world’s fiercest chillies. Bred from original Moruga stock, this version ripens to a deep burgundy-red hue rather than the usual bright red, giving it a rich, wine-like appearance and slightly different flavour character while maintaining the same devastating heat.
Pods are thick-walled, heavily wrinkled and often end in the signature scorpion-style tail. They ripen from green to dark burgundy and average 1.2–2 million SHU, making them among the hottest chillies known. The flavour starts with a hint of fruit and floral notes, followed by an intense, lingering burn that builds steadily and lasts. It’s ideal for superhot sauces, powders, and extreme heat experiments, though not for the faint-hearted.
Plants are large and vigorous (90–120 cm tall), producing a strong canopy and excellent yields under warm, sheltered conditions. As with most Chinense types, they thrive in heat and humidity, producing their best crops in greenhouses or protected environments.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 110–120 days and continue producing while the weather stays warm.
