Description
Chilli Name: MEDUSA
Chilli Species: Annuum
Chilli Origin: Italy
Chilli Heat: Sweet
Medusa is an unusual and striking ornamental-culinary variety known for its very compact growth and masses of upright, slender pods. The plant remains small and bushy, making it particularly suitable for containers and decorative displays.
The fruits begin ivory-white or very pale, then transition through yellow and orange before reaching bright red maturity. Their pointed upright form and vivid colour progression give the plant an aesthetic appeal reminiscent of “hair of snakes,” which is how the variety got its name.
Flavour in Medusa is mild, with minimal heat (typically 1–1 000 SHU) making it easy to use fresh in salads or salsas, or dried for ornamental effect.
The plants perform well in warm, sheltered conditions and offer excellent yield for their size. Their compact nature makes them ideal for patio pots, balconies or as decorative indoor accents.
A variety bred and popularised in Italy, Medusa is valued equally for its ornamental value and its mild, usable pods.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
