Description

Chilli Name : KRISHNA JOLOKIA
Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : India (Assam)
Chilli Heat : Hot

Krishna Jolokia is a traditional Assamese chilli variety, part of the broader Jolokia family of regional chillies that long pre-date the superhot era. Despite sharing the “Jolokia” name with Bhut Jolokia, this type is not a superhot, but a robust, medium-to-hot chilli with strong local importance and great culinary value.

Pods are small to medium in size (4–6 cm), smooth and slightly curved, ripening from dark green to deep purple-black and finally rich red. The name Krishna means dark, referencing both the colour of the immature pods and the deep hue when dried. Flavour is bold, slightly smoky, and earthy, with hot but manageable heat in the 40,000–60,000 SHU range — ideal for everyday cooking, pickling, or drying for powder.

Plants are compact to medium (60–80 cm), hardy and prolific, producing generous crops even in humid tropical conditions. The dark foliage and colourful pods make it as attractive as it is useful in the kitchen.

Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 90–100 days, cropping steadily through summer.
