Chilli Origin : South Korea
Chilli Heat : Mild
Jalapeño Um-Ji-Put is a Korean-developed jalapeño variety, bred for its balance of heat, flavour, and adaptability to cooler coastal climates. The name Um-Ji-Put roughly translates to “spicy finger pepper” in Korean, a nod to its compact size and firm texture. It’s a strong, reliable variety that delivers traditional jalapeño character with a touch of Korean breeding finesse.
Pods are short and thick, around 6–8 cm long, ripening from glossy green to dark red. The flavour is clean, grassy, and slightly nutty, with medium heat levels around 6,000–8,000 SHU. It performs well both fresh and cooked, commonly used in Korean-style pickles (gochu jangajji) and mild chilli sauces.
Plants are compact (60–80 cm), upright, and prolific, producing clusters of uniform pods across a long growing season. The variety’s resilience and even ripening make it well-suited to protected growing in temperate regions.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants mature in about 90–100 days, yielding steady crops through warm summer months.
