Chilli Origin : USA (New Mexico State University)
Chilli Heat : Mild
Jalapeño Telica is a modern NuMex-bred jalapeño variety from the Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University (NMSU), developed for consistent production, thick flesh, and mild, approachable heat. It’s a go-to variety for commercial growers and processors who want classic jalapeño flavour with less burn — perfect for sauces, pickles, and fresh slicing.
Pods are smooth, firm, and thick-walled, averaging 7–9 cm long and 3 cm wide. They ripen from dark green to deep red, developing a rounded, slightly sweet jalapeño taste. Heat is mild–medium, usually 3,000–5,000 SHU, offering warmth without overpowering food. The balance of flavour and thickness makes it ideal for stuffing, grilling, or producing mild sauces.
Plants are upright and vigorous (70–90 cm tall), producing heavy yields of uniform pods throughout the growing season. The Telica line is noted for its disease resistance, uniform ripening, and early cropping, making it a dependable performer in both commercial and home settings.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 90–100 days, cropping reliably through the summer months
