Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : Mexico
Chilli Heat : Medium
Jalapeño Jalapa is a true Mexican jalapeño variety, developed for commercial production but now loved by home growers for its consistency, thick walls, and balanced heat. It’s named after the city of Xalapa (Jalapa) in Veracruz — the original home of the jalapeño and the region that gave this famous chilli its name.
Pods are plump, firm, and smooth-skinned, typically 7–9 cm long and 3 cm wide. They ripen from deep green to glossy red, offering the full spectrum of jalapeño flavour — from grassy and crisp when green to sweet and smoky when red. Heat is medium–hot, around 8,000–12,000 SHU, giving that classic jalapeño kick without being overpowering.
Plants are vigorous (60–80 cm tall), branching well and producing heavy yields through a long growing season. This variety performs superbly in pots, greenhouses, and open ground alike.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 90–100 days, cropping steadily through summer.
