Chilli Origin : USA
Chilli Heat : Medium
Jalapeño Early is a fast-maturing jalapeño variety bred in the USA for shorter growing seasons. It produces that classic jalapeño flavour and moderate heat in nearly half the time of many standard strains — perfect for growers in cooler regions or those who want an early, reliable crop.
Pods are thick-walled, firm, and glossy, growing 7–9 cm long. They ripen from deep green to red but can be harvested early while green for a crisp, slightly grassy taste. Heat is medium, around 5,000–8,000 SHU, with a bright, rounded flavour that’s ideal for fresh salsas, nachos, and pickling.
Plants are compact and high-yielding (50–70 cm tall), producing a steady flow of pods throughout the season. They mature roughly 10–14 days earlier than regular jalapeño types, making them a strong performer even in the UK climate under protection.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants reach full cropping maturity in about 80–90 days.
