Hungarian Hot Wax is a traditional Eastern European chilli and one of Hungary’s best-known varieties, prized for its versatility and consistent performance. It’s a mild to medium-hot pepper with a clean, tangy flavour that makes it a favourite for pickling, frying, or stuffing.
Pods are smooth, thick-walled, and conical, growing 10–15 cm long. They ripen from pale yellow to orange and finally deep red, offering good flavour at every stage of maturity. Heat is mild–medium, usually around 5,000–10,000 SHU, with a fresh, slightly sweet taste that’s perfect for Hungarian and Balkan cuisine, especially paprikás, pickles, and stuffed pepper dishes.
Plants grow 50–70 cm tall, bushy and very productive, producing generous yields over long seasons. Their reliability and versatility have made Hungarian Hot Wax a mainstay in both commercial growing and home gardens worldwide.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in about 90–100 days, thriving in full sun and warm, sheltered positions.
