Chilli Name : BLACK HUNGARIAN
Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : Hungary
Chilli Heat : Medium
The Black Hungarian is a striking Hungarian annuum that combines both ornamental beauty and culinary use. It is one of the few true black-podded chillies, carrying cultural links to the long tradition of chilli growing in Hungary. Its combination of purple-black pods and purple-tinged foliage makes it a dual-purpose variety, valued for the plate as well as the garden.
Pods are 6–8 cm long, slightly tapered, and ripen from deep glossy black to red. Flavour is tangy with a steady medium heat, making them excellent for fresh salsas, pickling, or adding colour to cooked dishes.
Plants are upright and vigorous, usually 60–90 cm tall, producing clusters of pods along with purple flowers and dark-stemmed foliage. This ornamental appearance makes them a favourite for gardeners as well as growers.
Seeds germinate best at 25–28 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 80–100 days from sowing and will crop heavily throughout the summer.
