Description
Chilli Name : CITRON
Chilli Species : Baccatum
Chilli Origin : South America (likely Peru/Bolivia)
Chilli Heat : Medium
Citron is a rare baccatum variety named for its bright citrus-like flavour and striking colour. Pods are small to medium, lantern-shaped, ripening from green to a glowing yellow-orange.
Heat is medium, delivering a fruity bite with a fresh, citrus character that makes it especially good in salsas, sauces, and light summer dishes. The flavour is what sets Citron apart — a clean brightness that reflects the classic baccatum profile but with extra tang.
Plants are vigorous and tall, often exceeding 1 m, with the typical white flowers spotted yellow that mark the baccatum species. They are prolific croppers across a long season.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants need around 100–110 days from sowing to harvest, with heavy flushes of pods throughout summer.
