CAP 270 is a baccatum accession from Peru, part of the Capsicum Accessions Programme (CAP) which catalogued and preserved wild and cultivated varieties across South America. These numbered lines are valuable for their genetic diversity and link back to the traditional chilli heritage of the region.
Pods are slim and tapering, usually 6–9 cm long, ripening from green to bright red. Heat is in the medium range, with the crisp, fruity-citrus flavour that marks many Peruvian baccatums.
Plants are tall and upright, often reaching 1 m or more, producing abundant pods alongside the characteristic baccatum flowers with yellow markings.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants usually take 90–110 days to first harvest, cropping well through the summer season.
