Description

Chilli Name : CAP 1022
Chilli Species : Baccatum
Chilli Origin : Peru
Chilli Heat : Medium

CAP 1022 is a Peruvian baccatum variety collected as part of the Chile Pepper Institute’s Capsicum Accessions Programme (CAP), where wild and semi-domesticated types are preserved for study and distribution. These numbered CAP lines often represent important genetic material, connecting modern chillies to their South American roots.

Pods are elongated and slender, around 6–8 cm long, ripening from green to red. Heat is in the medium range, with the fruity-citrus flavour typical of baccatums, making it useful in sauces and fresh cooking.

Plants are tall and vigorous, often exceeding 1 m in height, with the characteristic white flowers marked by yellow spots that identify baccatums.

Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants usually take 90–110 days from sowing to first harvest, cropping well into late summer.
