Description
Chilli Name: BASKET OF FIRE
Chilli Species: Annuum
Chilli Origin: United Kingdom
Chilli Heat: Hot
Basket of Fire is a compact ornamental–culinary hybrid bred in the United Kingdom for outstanding patio performance and vibrant, edible pods. This striking variety is ideal for containers and hanging baskets, combining decorative value with excellent yield and flavour.
The pods are small, slender, and slightly curved, maturing through a vivid colour range from cream to purple, then orange and finally bright red. Their thin walls and firm texture make them perfect for drying or using fresh in hot sauces and stir-fries.
Flavour is pleasantly fruity with a sharp bite, carrying a heat level of around 80 000 SHU, placing it firmly in the Hot category. Despite its compact size, the plant produces a surprising abundance of pods, each about 3–4 cm long, giving a lively burst of colour throughout the season.
Plants are low-growing, naturally bushy, and well-suited to pots, window boxes, or hanging baskets. They show excellent tolerance to cooler weather compared with many chilli varieties, continuing to fruit late into the season.
Basket of Fire was developed in the UK by commercial breeders to combine ornamental beauty with culinary use. Its mix of colour stages and strong but approachable heat has made it a modern favourite among both gardeners and cooks.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
