Description

Chilli Name : HABANERO YELLOW (PI 224448)
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : Mexico (Yucatán Peninsula)
Chilli Heat : Very Hot

Habanero Yellow (PI 224448) is a true Yucatán habanero, one of the original strains collected and preserved under the USDA’s Plant Introduction (PI) programme. This authentic yellow habanero represents the classic Mexican chinense, known for its vivid colour, tropical aroma, and intense, balanced heat.

Pods are lantern-shaped, 4–5 cm long, ripening from green to golden yellow. Heat is very hot, around 300,000–400,000 SHU, with a bright, fruity-citrus flavour that captures the signature taste of Yucatán chillies. It’s widely used in salsas, sauces, and marinades throughout southern Mexico.

Plants are medium-sized (70–90 cm), bushy and high-yielding, producing generous crops of uniform pods through long growing seasons.

Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants take around 100–110 days to maturity, thriving in warm, sunny conditions or under protection in cooler climates.
