Devil’s Tongue Yellow is a colour variation of the original Devil’s Tongue chilli, first discovered in Pennsylvania in the 1990s. Part of the habanero-type chinense family, this yellow strain is valued for its bright pods and clean fruity flavour.
Pods are elongated and pointed, resembling a tongue, ripening from green to a glowing yellow. Heat is very hot, on par with other habaneros, but the flavour is notably fruity and tangy, making it one of the more versatile chinense types for sauces and fresh use.
Plants are compact to medium-sized (70–90 cm), bushy and high yielding, producing heavy crops of uniform pods throughout summer.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, with sprouts appearing in 10–21 days. Plants reach maturity in about 100–110 days, cropping steadily once established.
