Trepadeira Werner is a rare Brazilian Capsicum baccatum variety known for its compact climbing habit, fruity aroma, and distinct bell-shaped pods. The name “Trepadeira” means “climbing” in Portuguese, referring to its sprawling, vine-like growth that benefits from light support as it matures. It’s a long-established South American heirloom, valued for its flavour, productivity, and decorative beauty.
Pods are small, pendant, and wrinkled, about 3–4 cm long, ripening from green to rich red. The flavour is fruity, slightly smoky, and tangy, with medium heat around 15,000–30,000 SHU — milder than many Chinense types but with a distinctive Baccatum citrus note. Excellent for fresh use, sauces, and drying, it delivers a lively flavour without overpowering heat.
Plants are vigorous and sprawling (up to 1.2 m), producing heavy yields of pods that hang beneath the foliage. It’s an easy grower for greenhouses or sunny gardens, thriving in warm, humid conditions.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in about 100–110 days, producing continuously once fruiting begins.
