Description
Chilli Name : COFFEE
Chilli Species : Chinense
Chilli Origin : South America (likely Brazil/Caribbean)
Chilli Heat : Medium–Hot
The Coffee chilli is named for its unusual pod colour, which ripens to a deep coffee-brown shade rather than the more common red, yellow, or orange. This makes it stand out among chinense varieties, particularly for collectors who value unique pod colours.
Pods are medium-sized, blocky to slightly wrinkled, ripening from green to rich coffee-brown. Heat is medium to hot, delivering the familiar fruity chinense flavour with earthy undertones. While the colour inspires the name, it does not indicate flavour — these pods don’t taste like coffee.
Plants grow to around 70–90 cm, with a spreading habit and reliable yields. The brown pods mature later than many other chinense strains but produce well across a long season.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, usually sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants take 100–110 days to maturity, with crops best grown under protection in cooler climates.
