Description

Chilli Name: THAI DRAGON
Chilli Species: Annuum
Chilli Origin: Thailand
Chilli Heat: Hot

The Thai Dragon is a well-known open-pollinated chilli variety widely grown across Thailand and Southeast Asia. It is valued for its consistent yield and suitability for both fresh and dried use, forming a staple part of regional cooking.

Pods are slender and slightly curved, typically 5–10 cm long, with a smooth surface and thin walls. They ripen from green to a deep red and are often borne in an upright to semi-upright position on the plant, making them easy to harvest and ideal for drying.

Flavour is clean and direct with a sharp, lingering heat. The heat level is commonly in the range of 50,000–100,000 SHU, placing it in the Hot category. It is widely used in stir-fries, curries, sauces, and for drying into flakes or powders.

Plants are compact to medium in size, bushy, and highly productive, often producing large numbers of pods over a long season. They perform well in warm climates and are suitable for container growing as well as open ground cultivation.

Thai Dragon has strong ties to Thai cuisine, where similar chilli types are essential for balancing heat and flavour in traditional dishes. Its reliable growth and drying qualities have made it popular with growers worldwide.

Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
