Description
Chilli Name: SUGAR RUSH AMARILLO
Chilli Species: Baccatum
Chilli Origin: Finland
Chilli Heat: Medium
Sugar Rush Amarillo is a stunning and highly aromatic baccatum variety prized for its rich, tropical fruit flavour and heavy productivity. Though it carries the characteristic sweetness of the Sugar Rush family, its appearance and taste are reminiscent of a yellow habanero, with glossy pods and bright, tangy aroma.
The pods are elongated and slightly wrinkled, ripening from light green to a glowing yellow-orange. Their walls are medium thick, providing a satisfying crunch when eaten fresh. Despite the name, the heat is moderate — offering warmth that builds gently rather than overwhelming — allowing the outstanding fruity sweetness to take centre stage.
Flavour is complex and vibrant, with tropical notes of mango, citrus, and passionfruit balanced by clean acidity. The aroma is exceptional, among the most fragrant of all chilli varieties. Perfect for sauces, salsas, and mild hot sauces where flavour and fragrance are the priority.
The plant is more compact than most Sugar Rush types, making it well suited to pots and smaller gardens. Extremely prolific, it produces long clusters of pods across the season, rewarding growers with consistent yields and strong ornamental appeal.
For anyone seeking a chilli that delivers bright flavour before heat, Sugar Rush Amarillo is an essential variety — easy to grow, full of character, and wonderfully versatile in the kitchen.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
