Red Cherry is a traditional Italian heirloom chilli, cherished for its round, cherry-shaped pods and gentle warmth. It’s one of the most widely grown heritage Capsicum annuum types, known for its balance of sweetness and tang, making it perfect for both fresh and preserved use.
Pods are small and spherical, about 3–4 cm in diameter, ripening from green to bright red with a glossy sheen. The flavour is sweet, slightly tangy, and mildly hot, typically measuring 2,500–5,000 SHU. Ideal for pickling, stuffing with cheese or meats, or slicing fresh, Red Cherry has long been a staple of Italian antipasti and Mediterranean cooking.
Plants are compact and high-yielding (50–70 cm tall), producing dense clusters of bright red pods through the summer. They thrive in full sun and warm soil, performing well in both pots and open ground.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in about 85–95 days, with steady cropping through late summer.
