Pete’s Cayenne, also known as Indian Cayenne, is a Capsicum annuum variety introduced to the UK by the late Peter Seymour, founder of Chilli Pepper Pete — one of Britain’s pioneering chilli companies. Peter’s early work importing and growing Indian cayenne and Naga Bhut Jolokia seeds helped shape the modern UK chilli scene and laid the foundations for the Dorset Naga, one of the most famous superhots in history.

This variety is a classic Indian-style cayenne, producing long, slender pods about 10–12 cm, ripening from green to deep red. The flavour is bright, clean, and slightly earthy, with medium heat (30,000–40,000 SHU) — perfect for cooking, drying, or grinding into powder.

Plants are upright and prolific (70–90 cm tall), thriving in warm, sunny conditions and producing heavy crops all season long. Pete’s Cayenne represents the roots of UK chilli growing — not about extremes, but about flavour, balance, and tradition.

Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days, and mature in around 90–100 days.
