Description

Chilli Name : NUMEX BAILEY PIQUIN
Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : USA (New Mexico State University)
Chilli Heat : Hot

NuMex Bailey Piquin is a small but mighty chilli developed by the famous Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University (NMSU). It’s a refined, stable version of the wild piquin peppers that grow across Mexico and the American Southwest — combining their fiery heat and distinctive flavour with improved yield and uniformity for growers.

Pods are tiny and upright, about 1.5–2 cm long, ripening from green to bright red. The flavour is bright, citrusy, and smoky, carrying hot heat in the 60,000–100,000 SHU range. Despite their size, these little pods pack serious punch and are excellent for chilli flakes, hot sauces, or infusing oils and vinegars.

Plants are compact and highly ornamental (50–70 cm tall), branching densely and covered in clusters of small upright pods. They are tough, drought-tolerant, and ideal for pots, borders, or greenhouse production.

Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 90–100 days and yield heavily once established, producing continuously through summer.
