Chocolate Mirasol is a rich and aromatic variant of the classic Mexican Mirasol pepper, prized for its deep chocolate-brown colour and complex, smoky sweetness. The name “Mirasol” means looking at the sun in Spanish, a nod to the traditional upward-growing form of the original variety. This chocolate strain, however, produces its pods hanging downwards, giving it a distinctive growth habit and heavy yields.
The pods are elongated and slightly curved, ripening from green to deep brown. Their thick flesh and glossy finish make them as attractive as they are flavourful. With heat levels ranging between 2 500 and 5 000 SHU, the Chocolate Mirasol sits comfortably in the Medium category, offering balanced warmth that complements rather than overwhelms.
Flavour is rich, smoky, and subtly sweet with underlying tones of berry and tea. When dried, the pods produce a dark, aromatic powder ideal for seasoning blends, mole sauces, and slow-cooked dishes. Fresh, they lend depth and complexity to salsas, marinades, and roasted vegetable dishes.
Plants are vigorous and productive, often needing staking due to the weight of their fruit. They perform best in warm, well-drained soil and full sun. With proper care, Chocolate Mirasol produces abundant harvests of deeply coloured pods throughout the season.
