Description
Chilli Name : KANON PEPPER
Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : Japan
Chilli Heat : Medium
Kanon Pepper is a modern Japanese chilli variety, bred for balanced heat, clean flavour, and compact growth — a fine example of Japan’s precision approach to vegetable breeding. The name Kanon (花音) translates roughly to “flower sound” or “beautiful echo”, reflecting both the chilli’s elegance and its popularity among small-scale growers and chefs seeking subtle heat and ornamental charm.
Pods are slim, smooth, and slightly curved, around 8–10 cm long, ripening from bright green to vivid red. The flavour is fresh, crisp, and slightly sweet, carrying medium heat in the 8,000–10,000 SHU range — hot enough to give a pleasant burn without overwhelming food. It’s a versatile cooking chilli, ideal for tempura, stir-fries, or lightly seared dishes where delicate spice is preferred.
Plants are compact and productive (50–70 cm tall), with fine branching and dense foliage. They perform well in pots or open soil, offering both yield and ornamental beauty. In Japan, Kanon Pepper is often grown as part of urban rooftop or balcony gardens for its reliability and attractive form.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in about 90–100 days, producing steady crops through the warm months.
