Chilli Heat : Superhot
Gibbering Idiot is a UK-bred superhot chilli, created by breeder Neil Smith as part of the wave of modern chinense crosses developed in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The name reflects its brutal heat — one of those aptly titled chillies that delivers exactly what it promises.
Pods are medium-sized, gnarled, and deeply wrinkled, ripening from green to fiery red. Heat is superhot, capable of exceeding 1,000,000 SHU, with an aggressive, immediate burn. Flavour is fruity at first but quickly overtaken by searing intensity, making it a favourite among superhot collectors and sauce makers.
Plants are vigorous and tall (90–120 cm), producing heavy yields through long, hot summers or under protection in cooler climates.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants take 110–120 days to reach maturity, rewarding growers with large crops of ferocious pods.
