El Oro de Ecuador, which translates as The Gold of Ecuador, is a heritage baccatum variety prized for both its productivity and bright golden fruit. It originates from the El Oro province in Ecuador, where it has been grown for generations as part of local food culture.
Pods are medium-sized, conical and slightly curved, ripening from green to a rich golden-yellow. Heat is medium, with a tangy, fruity flavour typical of baccatum chillies, making them excellent for salsas, sauces, and fresh cooking.
Plants are tall and upright, often reaching 1–1.2 m, and highly prolific, producing heavy harvests across a long season. White flowers with yellow spots mark its baccatum identity.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in 100–110 days, delivering steady crops into late summer.
