Chocolate Drop is a chinense variety valued for its distinctive dark brown pods, which are small, rounded and drop-shaped. Unlike the superhot chocolate strains, this one carries a more moderate heat in the hot to very hot range, balanced by an earthy, slightly smoky flavour typical of brown chillies.
Pods are small (2–3 cm), smooth and glossy, ripening from green to a rich chocolate brown. They are most often used fresh in salsas and sauces, or dried for powder where their deep colour and bold flavour stand out.
Plants are compact to medium in size, typically 60–80 cm tall, and crop steadily across the season with clusters of pods.
Seeds germinate best at 28–30 °C, sprouting within 10–21 days. Plants usually take 100–110 days from sowing to harvest, with good yields throughout summer.
