Chilli Name : CALORO
Chilli Species : Annuum
Chilli Origin : USA (California)
Chilli Heat : Mild–Medium
Caloro is a heritage Californian chilli, closely related to the jalapeño family but with a milder, fruitier character. It is believed to have been developed as a local adaptation for warm, dry climates, offering reliable yields and consistent flavour.
Pods are thick-walled, smooth and slightly rounded, growing 5–7 cm long and ripening from green to golden yellow, then to orange-red if left on the plant. Heat is mild to medium, typically around 2,000–5,000 SHU, making it excellent for pickling, stuffing or grilling.
Plants are strong and compact, around 60–80 cm tall, producing heavy crops of uniform pods across the summer.
Seeds germinate best at 26–30 °C, sprouting in 10–21 days. Plants mature in around 80–90 days, performing well in both pots and open soil.
